The goal of SEO is to get more people to your website from organic search results within search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and now DuckDuckGo.
The question is, how do you do increase your online visibility headed into 2021?
The answer is to create better content.
What exactly is “better content”?
In the 10+ years or so I’ve been in digital marketing, I’ve seen the bar continue to rise on what’s considered “good” content.
10 years ago, it was a 300-word “evergreen” page.
5 years ago it was a 600-word piece of content.
For 2021, it’s all about building what I call “resource” pages… those are well-researched, information-packed pages designed to give users a wealth of information about a topic.
The good news is that if you do them right, they rank REALLY well and bring in TONS of traffic.
The bad news is that building a resource page takes TIME. Lots of it.
What’s On a Good Resource Page?
This is the easy part – just think like a web visitor and ask yourself, what do they want to see?
- Good, well-researched information (not just opinions or stuff they can read elsewhere)
- Roundups of hard to find information
- Data or research you may have performed
- Relevant images (not just stock photos)
- Relevant videos
- Links to other reference or resource type sites
What’s a Good Resource Page Look Like?
Chances are you’ve come across good SEO driven resource pages in search results. Google (in particular) loves them.
Here are a few examples:
Click here to see a resource page about the ins and outs of high dose biotin.
Click here to see a resource page about pest control marketing.
Click here to see a location page about the area a company serves.
These are just a few examples, but all of them have elements like the ones described above.
Create more content like this, and you’ll win the SEO battles in 2021.
Continue creating light content that no one wants to read and watch your website traffic drop like a stone.
